Redemption & Installation


Creating an Account

To begin your military campaign of mediterranean conquest you will need to first redeem your Closed Alpha code and install the game. You should have received a 12 character long code that looks something like this: PHA2-NDB5-VNXN. Please note that the code shown has been previously redeemed and you must use your own unique code to get access to the game.


Once you have your code, you need to go login to your Wargaming.net account. There are region locks in the game which means you need to make sure your account belongs to the region you want to play in.


You can register a Wargaming account by going to these links for your preferred region and creating an account or logging in to an existing account.

Redeeming Your Code

After you are logged in you will need to go to another link to redeem your code. Again, the link to use is region specific.

Once the site is loaded, enter your code by typing it or copying and pasting it into the text box that says ‘Enter Code Here’. Click the Redeem button when your have finished entering it. If you run into any problems entering your code there is a link to Wargaming Support at the bottom of the website where you can submit a ticket or ask a question.


After your code is redeemed you will need to wait for a follow-up e-mail from Wargaming. That e-mail will be sent to the e-mail address you used to create or login in to your Wargaming account, which may be different from the account you received your Alpha invitation in. If you don’t receive that e-mail within 24 hours, open a ticket using the support link on the website.


Installing the Game

The e-mail will contain the steps needed to install the game, which are detailed below.


Download the Wargaming Center Launcher by clicking this link: http://redirect.wargaming.net/WGC/Wargaming_Game_Center_Install_ASIA.exe


fter downloading, open the file and follow the on screen instructions to complete the install. Once installed, open the launcher by double-clicking the Wargaming.net Game Center icon on your desktop.


At the top right of the window, click Install Game by ID and in the pop-up that appears copy and paste the following line:

Game ID




Click install after the Game ID has been entered in the text field. Total War: Arena will install and takes roughly 3GB of hard drive space. Once installed it will appear as a tab at the top of your Wargaming.net Game Center launcher.


First Time Login

Once installed, click Play on the Total War Arena tab of the launcher. The launcher will open a login window where you should login using the region and account information from the first section of this guide. You already signed the NDA when you installed the game.


You may discover that your wargaming account belongs to a region you didn’t expect, such as NA when you are EU. If you have already redeemed your code then you will need to open a ticket with Wargaming Support to fix it. You will need to create an account for the region you want to play in and start the process from the beginning.


Once logged in, if the servers are open then you will be able to setup your commanders and units. If you get an error stating ‘Service Unavailable’ then that means the servers are closed and the test isn’t live yet.


Congratulations! You are now ready to play as soon as the test goes live! If you experience any errors during this process, please report them on the forums so that the Publisher and Dev teams are aware. Each region has its own forums, so pick the one that matches your WG Account.

Premium units are always worse than normal units sp they aren't pay to win. However different choices should be possible. Eg World of warships premium carriers have multiple flight configurations.

#2042 Massed Cavalry Blobs - Why is this not an exploit?

So the "good" players use this awesome strategy of blobbing 3 cavalry and grouping with 2 or 3 like-minded mates doing the same thing with their cavalry. The very difficult tactic is to all charge three enemy units together and delete them. Rinse repeat.

Now don't tell too many people in case they decide to get good ;) As I said, it's a very difficult strategy so take your time trying to learn it.

Seriously, why are 12 cavalry units allowed to charge into one small area and delete the enemy but cause no damage to each other? They don't even seem to impede each others charge.

Its up atm, if this is about the key issue, download the client and then u should be able to play as it auto adds it to your wargaming account. If it's another issue try hitting up support or Conan. https://asia.wargami...support/tickets

Closed Beta Test Fixes


With the Closed Beta Test kicking off, we’ve made a few balance changes and bug fixes so you get the most out of your time on the battlefield. Which units have been affected? Read on to find out!


These might seem light as there are a lot of balance changes and fixes in the pipeline but not all have made it yet. We are working hard on these and testing them internally before having them tested by yourselves. So we'll be sharing a lot more soon!



Following our reports gathered from recent playtests, we found that spear units, and commanders that relied heavily on them were beginning to struggle to compete, especially in the high tiers. We've made adjustments to the core Greek Hoplite Phalanx, to give it more manoeuvrability and damage, whilst increasing the attack, defence and hit points of spear units. The unit stat adjustments are smaller in the lower tiers, and more substantial in the high.


Unit Ability Changes:

  • Hoplite Phalanx:
    • Speed increased to 0.35 from 0.25
    • Base Melee damage increased to 1.5 from 1.2

Bug Fixes

A new update means more bug fixes, here are a few of the most significant ones:

  • Premium game time prices have been reduced for the Closed Beta launch!
  • Tool-tips should no longer become stuck to the mouse cursor in the front end
  • Fixed an issue where the battle user interface would not be displayed after the battle deployment phase
  • Units are no longer able to multiple Javelin/Pila volley's while positioned on ledges
  • Units are no longer able to continue targeting enemies indefinitely when positioned on ledges
  • Units will now recover from routing whilst inside their own capture circle
  • The central tower on Salernum will now give lines on sight for the correct location
  • Moved Friendly Fire notification to prevent covering the base capture bars
  • Switching Commanders with a full squad will no longer cause a "Profile out of Sync" message when matchmaking

CA has said they want to avoid wipes during CBT if they can. However there will definitely be a wipe before Open Beta which will be the last one.

After playing quite a few games in CBT have some suggestions for improving the game, which i am really enjoying as a whole and would love to see it become successful.


Achievements – Having these pop up in the middle of the page after each fight is quite annoying.

Unit XP to Commander XP – Have an option where you can automatically allocate your unit xp to commander xp from each game but at a reduced rate, 30-50% of normal unit xp seems reasonable.

Commander XP – Seems like the grind through these levels is very very slow. Given average xp (with premium time) I estimate it would take 1-2k games just to level one commander? Above Unit XP to Commander XP might be a fix for this.

Commander skills – Limiting their skills to the tier they are playing, ie playing tier 4 will allow skills and skill buffs up to tier 4. Stops high tier commanders being OP in lower tiers, but still stronger than a new commander. A perfect example is Barrage being used at lower tiers.. way too OP, even when not upgraded.

Kill Listing – Include dogs as kills and also separate listing for friendly fire and increased penalties for this. 1 cav should also count as 2 kills. Just making it more clear how your damage and ff contributes towards xp earned / lost.

Last unit kills – Units who are ‘almost’ dead seem to take forever to finish off, even if surrounded by many troops.

Random routing - Units after taking quite a bit of dmg/losses seem to rout randomly, even after morale has increased back to full.

Consumables – Some consumables are a bit too strong, ie some units can barricade themselves in at certain locations which make them untouchable by cav and almost untouchable by infantry if they have ranged.

Party tier indicator – when readying up in party the tier range indicator isn’t always correct.

Preferential MM – T4 & T5 should get pref MM as the jump to T6 when heavy armor is introduced is too significant.

Team listing – List teams in game by unit type and then tier, groups can be shown with an A, B or C next to their names.

Refine MM – I’m sure this will be a work in progress, but team and tier balance isn’t always very good.

Gold to Silver – 1-10 exchange rate is way too low.

Chat Bar – being able to move and being able to lock / not removing when bringing up the friends tab or other tabs.


I wont comment specifically on any unit balance issues, many have already been mentioned in other posts and i'm sure this will be an ongoing discussion.
